In the new release for the Dune sequel, “Dune Part Two,” it was almost unreal how well director Denis Villeneuve adapted the movie. I heard many critics and moviegoers praising the film, as they did with the first release, “Dune Part One.” So, I had to see it for myself and offer an honest opinion so that people could know how impactful and enjoyable it is. When the first few scenes played out, it was great.
We were back on Arrakis, and Paul was with Chani in the desert alongside a group of Fremen, scouring the lands for Harkonnen forces. This played out so well because we already knew that the movie was setting up for constant action, which it delivered. The film provided so many emotions that I was engrossed for the whole 2 hours and 46 minutes of the run time. The plot still revolved around Paul being the Lisan al Gaib, the savior of the Fremen, and reuniting planet Arrakis. This idea of him being the Lisan al Gaib brought viewers back to the first film, where they did an excellent job of translating it from the book to today’s film. People watching can get a clear understanding of what is going on, even with little information on the series.
As the story continued, we saw more and more of how Paul adopted the Fremen lifestyle, learning the ways of the desert and demonstrating various feats like riding a grandfather sandworm or surviving after drinking the water of life, which impressed the Fremen people every time. This gave them hope that he was indeed the Lisan al Gaib, and he was there to free them from the Harkonnen rule and bring them to paradise. He continued leading the Fremen people on attacks, and later on in the movie, he started associating more with the messiah role of the people of Arrakis. He even told all of the Fremen at one point, when he was giving a speech on how he is the Lisan al Gaib, “There is no one in this room who can stand against me!” This was a very powerful quote because it showed his confidence, but it also led the Fremen to believe he was their savior.
Afterward, they launched an all-out attack on the Harkonnen. Since there was a cave where the Atreides family hid all of their nuclear weapons, they were going to use them on the Harkonnen forces, as well as their base, which they took over in the first film.
During this scene, Paul said one of his best lines in the movie and probably the most recognizable, “Long live the fighters!” He said this as the Fremen came out of the sand, and the nuclear weapons launched, making it one of the most cinematic and jaw-dropping scenes in the movie. Timothee Chalamet made this entire film worth watching with his incredible acting and overall emotion he brought into this film. The same goes for Zendaya. Her presence in many recognizable films before this helped give viewers a sense that this is another role that was meant for her, and she absolutely crushed it. The ending for the second movie played out well. It left us on another cliffhanger, but it’s setting us up for the third part of the movie, which will release in a couple of years if announced soon. Another thing that many people were commenting on were the special effects used in the movie. Miklos Bajus is one of the many special effects people on the team, and he made the film look so surreal and unimaginable that it felt real to the audience. To many people, you could imagine yourself in the film.
Furthermore, if you’re a fan of a sci-fi film that will take you for a run and let your imagination constantly slip, then you will love Dune. It’ll make you feel like you’re on the planet of Arrakis with the Fremen.
