Every year there comes that time when students have to sit for four hours and take the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness exam, otherwise known as the STAAR test. The STAAR test is given towards the end of the year to view every student’s progress from the previous year. According to the Texas Education Agency, AI is now a new method used to grade the STAAR test. AI is a bad method of grading.
This seems like it could be a good thing or a bad thing. It could be a plus because it would be easier on the people who have to take the time to grade the assessment. It would be a faster and more convenient way to grade the tests, especially when there are about a million tests that need to be graded. It could also be a better way for students to access their grades faster. A lot of students don’t get to know or see their grades until it gets brought to them and it sucks because, how are they supposed to know? AI could be a positive turnaround in the grading system.
A negative effect of this new method could be that the AI’s way of grading won’t be fair and it’ll be chaotic. There’s no actual way of seeing whether or not this method would work and it could cause some tension. It would have a negative effect on the students because if they feel that the way they were graded was unfair then it’ll cause them to be upset and maybe even throw a fit about it. Plus, parents will probably be worried about this new method of grading because AI is still being made and everybody is still figuring out how to use it and it seems unfair to have a robot grade students’ tests.
Overall, it could be a good or a bad way to grade the STAAR tests but, everything has pros and cons. If it turns out as a positive thing then things will be easier but if it fails then at least everyone knows not to trust AI.
